Title: Great 4G Router at a Silly Price.
Review: Zyxel M804The router arrived in a very business looking box. No frills. It had the router, PSU with three plug adapters, a really cheap Ethernet cable, and some quick start manuals and paperwork. The router is quite large but very light.Plugging it in, the most crazy part is that there is no guidance as to which way the SIM goes in, and this takes several attempts to find the right way.Removing the Ethernet cable is a bit difficult because it’s recessed and difficult to get your fingers in to release the catch. The unit power up quickly, and you are met with the login. The IP, by the way, is 192.168.1.1 (this can be changed) and the login is “admin†“1234â€. You are prompted to change the password immediately, so have a 32 character password ready. The firmware was very out of date, which really surprised me. The first thing you should do is update it.The router is already set up for default operation. The web interface is very business like, and comprehensive (one of the reasons I bought this one).I did not use the Wi-Fi in the router, so can’t comment on that, but the 4G reception was good. There are two female SMA sockets in the back for aerials which I will try over the coming weeks and I will report back on whether adding an antenna makes much difference. The VoIP setup is pretty simple, and is far less complex than an average ATA. You do, however, need to find a SIP provider and open an account with them beforehand. I have not attempted to use the service yet.The router has a pass-through mode, which effectively turns it in to a modem.I did try an external antenna with the router, and this was disappointing! There are two female SMA connectors on the back of the router, hidden by a panel. Plug-in internal antenna produced no improvement. External antenna did provide some improvement, but very little. I guess the latter very much depends on circumstance, but don’t buy an antenna thinking is it guaranteed to improve matters.Anyway, excellent device. Certainly recommended.

Title: Cat 12 – the hidden secret
Review: I bought this router following some research into a problem with an EE provided router and SIM, that EE were no use in resolving whatsoever. The house in question is located in an are where the signal is not great but the router could not get a connection at all, nothing. However iphones are able to get a good 4G connection with decent download speeds using the SIM provided with the router. Long story short, it turns out many 4G routers lag iphones in radio technology and ability to stitch together a signal. There is a CAT system out there, where Cat 6 (300Mbps) seems to be the standard most providers ship, assuming the reception is good and that presumably works in those cases. However iPhones these days are at least CAT 12 in the radio technology (600Mbps roughly). I bought this router as it was published as CAT 12 in the last hope it would resolve the connection issues, which it duly did. Instantly worked and obtained a full connection and 9Mbps download/ 3Mbps connection on a speed test.So top tip – if you are in this situation – you’ve been given a router that doesn’t get a connection but the same SIM works in an iPhone, check the CAT classification of the provided router and if you need to move up to 12, this router does the job.

Title: Great signal throughout the home
Review: Plug and play easy with the Zyxel app, I take it different places of travel and it’s great, there is a feature to change network band to allow tuning for a better signal if needed, tested with Vodaphone sim with low speed 30mbps and high speed at 300mbps at 1ft off the floor, no line of site.

Title: Insert SIM Card. Switch On. Done!
Review: So easy to set-up.I purchased this for my mother and set it up for her too. It took three or four minutes. This replaced her old Huawei Cat 4 B311 router, and she’s now getting four times the 4G download speed that she used to have. No, it’s not 5G fast, but it’s fast enough for 720 TV streaming on her Roku sticks; radio on her Alexa devices; surfing the web on her tablet… My mother is very happy with it.It’s basically 4.5G. It has four internal antennas inside which can connect up to four cell tower signals at once, and convert those four signals into one signal. It’s possibly more technical than that, but that’s as far as I understand it. Search “LTEA”, “Cat 12 router” or “4.5G” on the web, for more info.Very easy to set-up. You barely need to look at the set-up manual.I only went into the router settings to manually choose the bands for her network (and switch off auto selection). She’s using an unlimited data SIM from ID Mobile, which uses the Three Mobile network. Looking at the Cellmapper website, the Three Mobile cell towers with 4G nearest to her home are using bands 1, 3, and 20. So, that’s what I locked the router to receive.I highly recommend this router.p.s. If you’re putting a completely new SIM card into the router, you might want to activate it in a spare mobile phone first. You may have to confirm a code sent to you via SMS, when setting-up any new pay-as-you-go or pay-monthly account, before inserting the card into the router. You can also view SMS messages from the router web-view in your browser, when logging into the router. However, you may miss receiving any initial set-up SMS to the SIM card though, as the router’s SMS function seems to be switched-off by default. To log into the router, enter 192.168.1.1 into any browser. The default username is “admin” and the first-use password is “1234.”Click the three line menu icon at the top-right of the screen. Choose “Network Setting”, then “Broadband.” Scroll to the right, and click on the “Cellular SMS” option. You can then turn-on and view SMS messages sent to the SIM card. The band-locking options are also in that “Broadband” sub-menu too, when you scroll right to “Cellular Band.”No 5G near your home? Lousy slow cable internet connection? Get this router. It’s fantastic!
