Question: Why does the computer show less capacity than the original capacity?

Answer: This is because storage products like SSDs use NAND flash as the storage medium, and their calculation is based on the decimal system, i.e., 1KB = 1000B, 1MB = 1000KB. However, the operating system uses the binary system, i.e., 1KB = 1024B, 1MB = 1024KB. Therefore, the actual displayed capacity is approximately 93% of the total storage capacity. The formula to calculate the actual capacity is: Total storage capacity × 0.93.

For example: 512GB SSD:

SSD capacity: 512x1000x1000x1000=512000000000B.

Conversion to actual capacity displayed by the computer: 512000000000B/1024/1024/1024=476GB.

Quick calculation: 512GB x 0.93 = 476GB.
