Title: Simple to setup and works great.
Review: Easy to set-up with either smart home app (QR code in the box) or using Tuya’s app open the app and click on add and then Wi-Fi plug. The energy monitoring is a nice feature showing the daily usage and monthly usage helping see the usage of the device attached (great for a fan with the upcoming summer) to help with energy bill’s where you can see how much a device will cost to use in real world terms. The box is plain and simple with just the 2 plugs and the manual in. Only thing to note is you need to have a 2.4Ghz WiFi network and I’ve noticed it works better and more reliably with a “split” network where you have a 2.4 and 5 network separately. Nothing to complain about as they work great with no issue.

Title: Can be converted to ESPHome!
Review: These are Tuya based smart plugs, they use a Beken BK7231N on a CB2S Module. These are great WiFi Based smart plugs, Out of the box they support the Smart Life app which is great because I have seen a couple of vendors which use the Tuya platform lock down their devices to their own white label version of Smart Life, which makes it a pain to use them in your existing smart home setup. For a two pack the price isn’t bad, they are on par with other smart plugs here on Amazon (And having two of them might come in handy later 😉 )Being “Native Tuya”, you can easily use these plugs with existing smart home system that also support Tuya, Such as Home Assistant, but if you are feeling adventurous, you can also de-cloud these plugs to completely run them on your local network. You could probably use “Tuya Cloudcutter” on these, but personally I prefer flashing these devices via Serial so I can back up the existing firmware. The plug body itself is easy to take apart, just run a craft knife around of the two parts of the shell (easy enough to find as the two parts are coloured slightly differently.), After a few laps you should have broken enough of the glue to be able to pop the two parts apart using a pry tool.Once inside, in order to access the pins of the module you will have to de-solder the pins that that attach the main PCB to the Live/Neutral plug pins, but with enough heat and a decent iron this is easy to do. It is then easy enough to access the RX/TX/GND/3v3 pins of the module to flash what ever BK7231N compatible firmware on the module your heart desires, personally I like LibreTiny fork of ESPHome to de-cloud my smart plugs. (Remember to take a back up of the existing firmware, it has the keys you will need if you ever want to use the plug with Tuya again)After flashing the module the pins on the module you will be interested in are as follows:P26 (Inverted): Button on the plugP10 (Inverted): Status LEDP6 (Inverted): BL0937 CF_PINP7 (Inverted): BL0937 CF1_PINP8 (Inverted): BL0937 SEL_PINAnd the following numbers will get you in the ball park for the current/voltage monitoring when using ESPHome. HOWEVER, I need to tweak these numbers. Read the pro-tip! voltage_divider: “798.7020693435659” current_resistor: “0.0009530366589926469” current_multiply: “0.41651231763382346”(Pro-Tip for getting these numbers yourself, Flash one of the plugs, leave the other on Tuya for now, plug the ESPHome plug into the Tuya Plug and open Smart Home and open the live power usage page, Screen share your phone with your PC, put the screen share and the live debug feed from ESPHome next to each other, Start screen recording on your PC, Do the calibration method, then use the recording to get the required values from both the Tuya plug and the ESPHome plug to calculate the required voltage divider, current resistor, and multiplier. My numbers are not SPOT ON, but I’ll run another calibration over the weekend and update my review with better numbers soon)
