Title: Stylish Watch
Review: It’s a nice looking watch although the bezel is not matt as you see in the pictures. It is light for the size compared to metal watches.As for functions – they are accurate – I have synced the barometer with a barometer station and it tracks very well – at fixed altitude – however:The temperature gauge is foolishly on the back next to your skin. I had an old casio decades ago that had one on the side. D’oh!The barometer is effectively useless if you live anywhere near hills > 2m, take stairs, use escalators, work above the first floor in the office, enjoy jumping or are tall. The storm alarm will go off walking up stairs or if you climb a ladder. It will go off just driving around in your car unless you’re in Holland or the fens. You need to switch to “Altitude mode” if you’re likely to go up into your loft and “Baro Mode” if you’re sitting still at a fixed altitude like having a poo or watching TV. Only ALTI mode does not give you weather information or storm alarms, which you would want ideally in the mountains. A limitation with a pure barometer I know and not a pure issue with the product. Obviously it’s not designed for suburban scenarios – driving around quickly with lots of altitude changes – but if you happen to traverse terrain with any altitude at a certain rate AND are interested in the weather it’s a sticky problem.Having said – there is a useful AUTO mode that switches between ALTI and BARO for you – if it detects impossible normal pressure changes it will assume you are climbing/descending and lock the reference sea-level atmospheric pressure and adjust the altitude accordingly. It’s useful but does not seem to return to the starting altitude if you e.g. descend and ascend back to the same position over a short period. So you need to keep calibrating it. More testing to be done but essentially it works within reasonable error margins (10% or so).The compass is accurate and impressive. Especially the LOCK feature which locks onto a bearing if you have no reference point to navigate (e.g. dense woodland or night scenarios). It tells you if you are veering off course quite clearly.So – big marks for certain features – and a nice looking watch.

Title: Stealthy military watch
Review: I’m really pleased with the suunto core all black watch.I found the suunto incredibly light weight and comfortable to wear. It will fit most wrists and with other reviews saying it was larger than other watches, I was surprised to find it wasn’t as big as I had expected.What I really love knowing is that I’m currently 65m above sea level and what the current air pressure is and it appears to be fairly accurate.The 1st image is an accurate representation of the contrast which can be adjusted from 1 to 15, mine is set to 9 in the first photo, I tried 15 but this does affect the back light also and makes it brighter and less easily readable when the light is on.This low contrast display isn’t going to suit everyone and yes it is hard to see in some light but this doesn’t bother me.Remember, it’s advertised as a STEALTH watch, the display needs to be low contrast and just barely visible so don’t grumble about the display being hard to read, simply buy a different watch.It’s packed with features with my personal fav being the storm alert.The watch was easy to set up and calibration for the barometer, altimeter and compass were straight forward.The alarm is quieter than I’d have liked but it did wake me up this morning.One thing you’ll find is that due to the dim display your battery will last a loooong time, unless you constantly use the compass etc so you’ll be replacing the battery 2 to 3 times per year., otherwise I found it lasts 12 months. Battery is easily replaced at around £1.69 (at time of writing this) for one cr2032 standard lithium battery.You can easily replace the strap or change it for nato, canvas or other silicon straps by buying suunto lug adapters. They are under a tenner.The time accuracy – gains between 0.03 to 0.07 seconds per day. I’ve added another photo to show what the watch looks like on a nato.

Title: Loss of battery cover
Review: Having used Suunto for ever I bought the Core and (almost) wasn’t disappointed. The watch worked perfectly UNTIL the battery compartment cover came undone and was lost. Its loss wasn’t immediately noticeable as the watch was still on my wrist and it worked intermittently according to the movement with the battery.My REAL gripe is that I can’t find out how to:A) buy a replacement cover andB) how to talk to customer services to find out where I can get a replacement.I work exclusively in the Scottish Hills and so rely on the barometer, time and compass. I’m rattled that this has happened and hope someone will advise.

Review: First of all, the seller sent this watch quickly, and in the original Suunto packaging which had not been previously opened. I decided on this watch because of its overall great reputation and reviews by existing owners. This basic watch design has been in production for 10+ years, so the “bugs” are probably worked out. I hestitated buying “Chinese knockoffs”, because their ads say their watches can not be “dependable” for swimming. This means their sealing design is not so good! I am like really! A sportwatch not dependable for basic activity. I suppose I could have purchased 6 of those knockoffs for the price of the Suunto, but I don’t want to be bothered with having to deal with subpar watches.This watch is much larger than my prior Highgear Enduro, which just bit the dust after 15 years or regular use, but this Suunto Core is still comfortable on my wrist, and does not dig into my hand during movement.As can be seen by my picture, the face background is not “white”, as it is shown on Suunto advertizing, but is lighter than most LCD watches, and provides excellent contrast in sunlight or darker environments. The backlight is also sufficient. I have experimented with all the basic functions, and everything works as it should. The button response has a quality feel and responds quickly. Compass calibration takes extra care, and after being unsuccessful with Suunto intrtuctions, I referred to some other internet reviews, and found if you hold the watch upright, and spin your whole body continuously, it does finally complete the process. The calibration must be done within one minute, or it “times out”. I screwed with it for more than one hour before finallying figuring it out. Once set, the compass seems to be very accurate. The barrometer also seems to be accurate.Overall, I gave 5 stars because the watch exudes a quality build. Fit and finish is top drawer. I already took it for a swim, diving to the bottom of my backyard pool, and am satisfied that i can keep this watch on 24/7 without issues. I will spend more time “dialing in” some of the “LCD views” and “button customizing” as time goes on. Since it does not have an eprom (it looses its memory when the battery dies), I will not put too much time into customization. I will also update this review in the future with my impressions / experiences.

Review: I had one of these several years ago and paid over $500 for it. Not sure where it went, but at $300, I couldn’t resist. I love the look of the watch, and the three basic functions; day/time, altimeter and compass. It is a bit dim, but not only did I get use to that quickly, but I appreciate the subtleness. Back light is available in the dark, and even though I can pull up all of the same info on my phone, having it on my wrist makes it more accessible and I use the compass and altimeter functions much more. Classic and classy watch. Get this model while you can – getting hard to find, and over $500 from Suunto directly.

I love the Suunto products and am a PROUD owner of a Suunto 9 Baro, Suunto 7, and also the Suunto Core. They all have a specific use for me in what that days activities involves!!
