Title: The good, bad and sometimes ugly
Review: I used this to grout 600x600x50mm concrete slabs on a patio. Results were good & bad:Good:Well made, strongly built although the trigger end screw popped out under pressure. HINT check and tighten the screw at the trigger end regularly.Allows you to quickly apply cement mix.Bad:The shovel like loading tool is larger than the barrel of the gun, so you have to be careful when loading, otherwise cement will trickle down the outside. Why not make the loading tool slightly smaller in diameter so it fits INSIDE the barrel??The nozzles aren’t long enough. I found it difficult to get a good depth (75mm) of mortar fully between the slabs. Why not make the nozzles longer??I found trying to squeeze hard to get the mortar to right down sometimes meant the mortar came up to the surface which potentially would stain the slabs. The nozzles are too wide. Because the gaps between slabs were variable, some places the nozzle would fit in others it wouldn’t. HINT: I put a hacksaw blade cut in the narrow end of the nozzle allowing the nozzle to compress so I could push it between slabs (see pictures).Ugly:By squeezing the mortar out of the nozzle, this compressed it and squeezes cement water out. This remained in the barrel until the barrel was tipped to reload and the water came out and stained the slabs.Summary:This tool works in the right hands, but could be so much better.

Title: One major weak point that ruined a potentially good product
Review: Although this mortar gun was easy to use and, at first glance, felt robust there is one major defect that totally ruins the product. Both of the plastic plungers, one pre-fitted and one supplied as a spare, were far too flimsy, simply not up to the task. Both buckled and split within half an hours use, rendering the gun unusable. In its current specification this product is a complete waste of money. We were using it to fit some expensive specialist mortar grout, which could’ve wasted nearly £50 if we didn’t have other options to hand.Manufacturers, it would only take a minor improvement to make this a good piece of equipment, please strengthen the plungers.

Title: Ignore negative reviews please
Review: As a time served bricklayer 37years and general builder please take no notice of any negative reviews, we do repointing work regularly and you name it we’ve tried it and no doubt have one for repointing electric hopper fed mortar pumps to fancy handheld hawks .These guns are by far the best manual pump mortar guns we have ever used anyone struggling clearly shouldn’t be using one especially on face brickwork so please stop , my only tiny criticism is the plunger nut keeps coming loose so bit of of lock tight out van job done, scoops lovely touch but found table size spoon much quicker for us and avoids any trapped air in barrel, we’ve got three of these guns and easily fill 80 fills a day per one gun without issue hope this helps any builders out there or competent diy ers

Title: Difficult to master, but a useful tool when you get it right !
Review: Firstly, let me say that I am a complete amateur/novice at the pointing game.I apologise in advance to any professional brickies and serious DIYers for any incorrect terminology used.As with some of the other reviews, I think it’s all to do with getting the right mix of sand, cement and plasticiser. That took me quite a bit of trial and error.Once you have got the mix sussed, it’s reasonably straight forward. I found that I had to narrow the size of the nozzle, as did at least one previous reviewer, as the gaps between the bricks varied so much. Did this by warming it up in hot water, in an effort to soften the plastic a little, and gently squeezing it with pliers.(Thought that it may crack if squeezed when cold – looked like it might.)There seemed to be quite a bit of wasteage as the gun had a tendancy to expel a little mix one moment and then a lot the next. I suspect that it may have been caused by air pockets in the mix, created when filling the gun. (Just a guess!) If you are having to squeeze the trigger quite hard then you’ve probably got the mix too stiff. If that’s the case, stop and remix because you’ll only end up breaking the gun. Squeeze the trigger gently, a little at a time, and you should get a reasonably steady flow. I was frequently left with a 1-2inch ‘plug’ of dry mix in the barrel which didn’t want to budge. Once again, if you feel that you’re having to apply a lot of pressure on the trigger – Stop, Empty, and Refill. The first gun I got failed on me on the second day of use. Very frustrating, as I’d just about got the mix and procedure right. The retaining ring at the trigger end broke apart. I have to say I was very impressed with Amazon’s returns/replacement procedure. A replacement arrived within three days, but I have as yet been unable to continue my labours due to work commitments and adverse weather !Over all I’d say the task of pointing, from a complete novice’s point of view, is made easier with this gun especially if you have quite an area to do. Patience and perseverance required in equal measure !!
