Bolts (Carriage & Roofing)
Carriage: Also known as “Cup Square”, “Coach Bolts” or “Round Head Square-Neck Bolts”.The square immediately below the head provides self-locking when placed in to a corresponding hole, allowing the fixing to to tightened from the opposite side without needing to secure the head with other tools at the same time.Typical uses include security fixings such as locks and hinges, where the bolt can only be removed from the inside.Roofing: Also known as “Gutter Bolts”A fully-threaded bolt with a narrow domed head which provides a wider grip area, reducing the load on thinner surfaces.Although referred to as “Roofing” bolts, these are typically used for a wide range of applications.
Carriage / Coach Bolt
Features a smoothed head which provides a secure fitting by preventing turning from the outer (public) facing side of the bolt.
Roofing / Gutter Bolt
Manufactured with a large flat (mushroom) head. Making them ideal for affixing to thin materials.
The wider surface area of their head allows the forces to be spread wider than a standard bolt, meaning that it’s less likely to damage the material it is fixed to.
Usually supplied with a square nut, and with wide slots on the head that can accommodate both flat and cross screwdrivers.

How to Measure
Width Measured from the major diameter of the thread (outermost tip to outermost tip on either side). Length Measured from the place where the fastener would fit flush with the surface. i.e directly below the head (including any squared section). Threads All threads are ‘Standard’ (usually ‘Coarse’) unless otherwise specified and conform to the ISO-965 standards. Metric (M) All metric threads conform to the ISO 965 standard for metric thread tolerances. That means that any ‘M’ sized bolt / machine-screw can be used with the equivalent nut.
Heads – Drives – Slots – Sockets
There are many variations of drive, head, slot, or socket. Some have other benefits (e.g. tamper-proofing / security), but the main difference is simply in the choice of tool(s) used to fit / remove the fastener.
Materials
Steel (Zinc Plated) A Corrosion-Retardant plating provides protection from external elements and extends the life of the metal. Stainless (A1-303) A slightly softer Stainless Steel commonly found in small machined parts. Stainless (A2-304) The “Standard” Stainless Steel suitable for long term outdoor use. Stainless (A4-306) A more advanced type of Stainless Steel that is suitable for direct contact with salt-water (Sometimes known as ‘Marine Grade’). Aluminium A non-magnetic metal that’s very light and will not rust. Brass An alloy of copper and zinc. Softer than steel but water resistant and anti-corrosive so ideal for outdoor / marine purposes. Black Steel An un-coated metal suitable for most internal applications (Also known as Self-Coloured) Nylon/Plastic A lightweight alternative to metals with greater insulation properties. Fibre Expands when wet to form a tighter seal.

Title: Does exactly what it says on the tin
Review: Delivered next day, correct number of items and I was able to use them to fit an outdoor lock at my coastal home. Time will tell if the quality of the stainless is up to the harsh salt-water environment, but looks good so far.
