(as of Aug 19,2024 14:00:26 UTC – About Lodge – 100 Years and Still Cooking
Originally established by Joseph Lodge in 1896 – and with over 118 years of experience – Lodge is renowned for producing the finest cast iron cookware in the world. The family-owned company, based in South Pittsburg (Tennessee), is the only remaining manufacturer of cast iron cookware in the USA. The business has survived two World Wars and the Great Depression and continues to prosper today due to its legacy of quality and dedication to improving manufacturing methods.
The Evolution of Lodge
Lodge’s legendary foundry has undergone several notable upgrades as the company has grown. In order to respond to increasing demand, it was converted from a hand-pour operation to an automated moulding process in 1950. This led to safer and more efficient manufacturing procedures. In 1992, with an emphasis on conservation, Lodge’s coal-fired cupola furnaces were replaced by an electro-magnetic induction melting system. With consumer demand beginning to exceed foundry capacity, Lodge recently completed a comprehensive expansion of its facilities that cost in excess of 30 million dollars. This included new melting and sand systems, an additional moulding line and enhanced seasoning capabilities. These developments have increased capacity by almost 50% and have ensured that Lodge’s foundry is now the most technologically-advanced in the world.
Lodge Seasoned Steel – Brutally Tough!
In 2011, as a natural complement to their cast iron offerings, Lodge launched their range of seasoned steel cookware. Constructed using 12-gauge carbon steel, the items boast comparable versatility, durability and performance, but are lighter than their cast iron counterparts.
Pre-seasoned at the foundry to provide the renowned natural, easy-release finish that improves with use, Lodge seasoned steel operates effortlessly both within the kitchen and on the open flames of the barbecue/campfire.
Care and Use Instructions – Follow these to Ensure that Your Lodge Seasoned Steel Lasts a Lifetime!
Care
1) Hand wash and dry immediately – even before the very first use.
2) Allow your cookware to cool naturally prior to cleaning (plunging hot seasoned steel into water may cause damage).
3) Rub a small amount of vegetable oil into the product after every wash. Use just enough to restore the sheen, without it becoming ‘sticky’. This reinforces the natural seasoning and protects the seasoned steel from moisture (which can lead to rusting).
Use
1) It is safe to use metal, wood or silicone utensils with your cookware.
2) Some foods (especially eggs) may stick to some degree during initial usage. It is advisable to employ extra oil or butter until the seasoning has built-up.
3) Acidic foods such as tomatoes, beans and certain sauces can damage the seasoning and should be avoided until the natural non-stick layer has matured.
4) Seasoned steel rarely needs to be placed on an above-medium heat setting if adequately pre-heated. On occasions when a higher cooking temperature is required, elevate the heat gradually and apply oil just prior to adding the food in order to prevent sticking.
5) Holders/mitts are essential when using the handles. Protect countertops with trivets.
How to Reverse Rusting
Without protective seasoning, seasoned steel can rust. If this does occur, it can be easily fixed by scouring the rust, rinsing and drying the cookware, and then applying a small quantity of vegetable oil.
If significant rusting is apparent then the cookware may need to be re-seasoned. Visit www.lodgemfg.com for specific directions.
Lodge’s Limited Lifetime Warranty

Small cosmetic blemishes inherent to sand casting and hand finishing which do not affect the performance of the cookware are not covered. Title: Perfect steak everytime!!!!
Review: I had read quite a few reviews, majority pretty good. Had been looking for a very large pan for a very long time, and too be honest was a bit nervous that I’d blown a load of money on a pan that wouldn’t live up to the expectations that I hadWell I can assure you that despite some of the negative reviews this pan is the real deal, I can only assume some people don’t use themproperly, seriously get the pan hot enough to slightly smoke turn down and nothing sticks, really impressed washed with hot water as stated with cleaned it a treat and then oiled (I used rice bran oil as can take very high temperatures also seasoned a few times just to get it going!)Use it as stated and you will love this pan!!!Ps.. I used on gas hob and as other reviewers stated you will need to turn down heat as it gets seriously hot, so careful not to burn them ribeye’s!!

Title: Arrived warped; heavier than expected; cleaned up easier than expected.
Review: Doesn’t sit flat by at least 2mm, which is annoying. Now I’m going to have to find someone to hammer it flat. Hard to test the cooking capability when over half the pan isn’t in contact with the induction cooktop. However I did find that eggs which seemed to be sticking actually allowed themselves to be scraped under and flipped without breaking the yolks, which I can *never* get to happen in my eco-nonstick pan. Did a potato veg hash once and fried eggs twice. All three times got the pan hot first, then added the fat, allowed the fat to get hot, then added the food. All three times food stuck. After the pan cooled a bit I added hot water and I’ll be danged if the food didn’t release with a one easy pass of the spatula. Literally amazed. (I have previously cooked quite a bit in cast iron and won’t let eggs near that pan.)I will also add that it is quite a bit heavier than expected (and I had read and watched a lot of reviews). I find it really difficult to one-hand it when pouring out the contents, which is of course necessary because I need the other hand for helping with the spatula. Amz says Lodge skillet weight is 3.41lbs. Amz says the Matfer Bourgeat is 4lbs11oz AND ALSO SAYS 1.9lbs someplace else. Will have to research further.

Title: Great Product
Review: These pans are brilliant. So long as you look after them, follow the washing instructions and season them they will perform superbly. Much much better than any non stick pan.

Title: Buy British
Review: Very disappointed with this product. It’s has a very rough surface you can use it to grate cheese or potato or as a nail file. I’ve got a far superior British one with a smooth surface. My advice buy British. I wouldn’t have another as a gift with red, white, and blue ribbons tied to it.

Title: absolutely beautiful saute pan
Review: I’ve already used oil to keep it for 1 day but this skillet deforms every time when I heat it, causing heating unevenly. It seems like there is quality problem with this one. So I decide to return it and buy a new one. Hopefully the next one won’t be the same

Review: Though the material isn’t that of cast iron (thus lower heat retention), it is considerably lighter making it easier to move around, clean, etc. The texture is a bit rough which causes sticking in the first few cooks if you’re not diligent with the fat that you put in or your temperature control. With all that I highly recommend this griddle for any kind of high volume cooking!

Review: This pan has a nice heft and is generous in size. Perfect if cooking for a crowd. I love that it is pre-seasoned. I still added some oil to insure the food didn’t stick and I re-seasoned it after cleaning with plain hot water and after a thorough drying..

Review: I have more expensive deBuyer pans that are thicker and smooth. I got lodge to try something different and I love it from day one. It heats up much faster than french pans and it comes pre-seasoned. I didn’t season the pan just start using it. I can see factory coating is disappearing and pan is more brown, not black but nothing sticks to it, even egg yes I tried an egg and it didn’t stick. It doesn’t slide like on smooth pans but didn’t stick. It’s an amazing pan for pancakes. When it heats up its not flat but it’s not that bad, works well on my induction cooktop. 10 inch is little small to cook for a big family but perfect to prep vegetables for like omlet or something else. I’m waiting for 12″ to go on sale and thinking to get another 10″ for outdoors.
