Title: Best smartphone I’ve bought
Review: I’ve had the LG G4 SIM-unlocked International version for a couple of weeks and am really happy with it so far.The next three paragraphs can be skipped if you don’t want to root the phone or flash custom software onto it.The first things I did were to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery (TWRP) and root it. This was all pretty straightforward and as per other Android phones except for one LG-specific process. To unlock the bootloader you need to register with LG as a developer (free, just provide a valid email and password), agree that unlocking the bootloader invalidates your warranty, and follow the instructions on the website for obtaining a 2-part number on your phone.Enter the number into the LG web page and a binary file will be emailed to you (hence the need to provide a valid email address). Flash the binary file which contains the unlock code onto the phone and reboot. Then follow the remaining instructions. Note that you need adb and fastboot on your computer for this process. It’s mostly explained well on the LG website, and any other information is obtainable from the usual tutorials on flashing phones. It’s all at your own risk though, so don’t blame me if it goes wrong!Of course, if you’re not wanting to run apps which require root, or to flash customs ROMs when they become available, then you don’t need to do the above. Note that unlocking the bootloader does wipe your user data, so it’s best to do it right away if you think you might want to do so.The phone looks from the front… pretty much like any other Android phone (apart from the HTC One). The front is all black apart from a silver LG logo. I went for the grey plastic back as I thought the leather backs looked a bit gaudy in the photos, but that’s a matter of personal preference. The screen seemed huge to start with compared with my Nexus 4, but it seems normal now and the Nexus 4 too small. The overall width of the phone isn’t that much greater due to extremely narrow bezels. It is a bit longer that the Nexus 4, but still fits in my jeans or other trousers pocket. I’m in the UK, and pants are underwear here. The screen gives a wonderful vivid display of photos.I disabled much of the LG software as it didn’t seem to add much value. Some things are really useful though. The dual window option, where you can have two apps (from a small supported selection) on the screen side by side is great. For example, the Chrome browser beside Gmail, or Chrome beside Google Maps. I often want to use two of these apps at the same time, e.g. looking up the location of an event mentioned in an email, or browsing for information on that event. The display is sufficiently large for the dual window to be useful. If you have a password on the lockscreen and have disabled showing messages on it, you can still peek to see if there are messages (email or text) by moving a finger down the display when it’s off. The top status bar will be displayed so you can see any icon indicating you have mail or a text – no need to type in the password to unlock the screen. Also the LED, if enabled, will flash to indicate if you have email or a text. The display can be switched on or off without the power button, by double tapping on the screen, which is convenient as the power button is at the back of the phone along with the volume buttons. All three of these buttons are a bit inconvenient to use since you can’t see them while viewing the display, and the volume buttons are right beside (on either side of) the power button. So, it’s easy to accidentally switch the display off when you want to adjust the volume and vice versa. However, the positioning of the buttons does make handling the phone easier the rest of the time as there are no buttons at all on the sides of the phone, only the micro USB port and earphone jack at the bottom. The volume can easily be adjusted pulling down the notification bar and using a slider control. Like I said, the display can be switched on or off with a double tap on the screen, so the power button is only really required for powering on or off (I use a Quick Boot app for the latter anyway). In use, the phone seems fast enough, with only very occasional slight lag. Some reviewers mention that the processor isn’t the fastest available but was chosen so that despite the big screen it didn’t use up the battery power too quickly. LG have been pretty successful in that case as the big battery lasts well and I’ve never got near running out of power in the course of a day – even using satnav. The battery is replaceable if you want to carry a spare and will apparently charge extra quickly if you buy a special charger. There is a slot for a memory card above the micro SIM card slot (under the battery cover), although with 32Gb internal storage (including OS), I don’t need to fit one right now.For navigation, the GPS acquires a signal quickly and Google Maps works well with it. There’s no wireless charging unless you buy a suitable replacement back cover. As a new model, the G4 has 4G capability. I’ve not tried it yet but will do shortly when my contract is upgraded from 3G. It works on O2 4G in the UK and from looking at the frequency list should work with the other UK mobile networks on 4G (but check for yourself before buying). The main camera gives wonderful results on manual mode and you can adjust shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and lots more. I’ve not used auto mode much so can’t really comment on that. The replaceable battery and expandable storage were big factors in my choice of phone, with the large screen and 4G being essential and the excellent camera being a bonus. I also like the fact that Lollipop isn’t heavily skinned and most of the LG software can be switched off. Oh, and since it’s a phone I should say that the call quality is fine.I like this phone better each day and can highly recommend it.

Title: Smartphone with all the bells and whistles you need
Review: I finally had enough squinting at my Nexus 4 and decided it was time to go with a larger screen phone. I had thought about getting the S7 but I couldn’t justify the cost. I was literally torn between two phones in the end – Motorola X and the G4. I wanted the ability to change the battery and expand storage. Having seen my brother in laws G4 I was swayed to go for it. For £260 I was able to get a phone that was relatively up to date. The back leather finish isn’t really my cup of tea but it’s functional. A nice touch was that there was a silver back cover in the box as well along with the charger, cable and battery. Setup was easy. My Google account was synced within minutes with all apps present. The 5.5″ screen is marvelous. The colours appear to be realistic without being overblown. I compared the G4 with my wife’s Samsung Note and I could clearly see the colour palette on the G4 was more natural. Screen brightness is very good. The rocker switch on the back feels a little more natural to me than having the controls on the side of the phone. The UI isn’t ghastly compared to others but some of the icons appear a little child like. Still, it’s easy to ascertain what the icon means. The phone is certainly not sluggish. The camera open up quickly when in for me is a welcome respite from the sluggish Nexus. There is a surprising amount of manual control which permits to adjust plenty of settings such as ISO, shutter speed, light balance. With its relatively fast aperture low light pictures look pretty decent especially if you capture images in RAW format. Videos are surprisingly well captured when optical image stabilisation is used. Image quality is superb – makes my Nexus 4 look antiquated. I love the ability to save RAW images in addition to the JPEGs. Luckily there aren’t many modes to get in the way of taking a photo. Selfies look pretty good with the front facing camera.Battery life is good. It will last a good part of the day under normal usage. However, the screen does consume most of the power so leave the auto brightness on. Charging takes a couple of hours. All in all, this is a great phone. The G4 maybe one generation behind the new kids on the block but for me the G4 is perfect for me and should last many years to come. It may not have the latest tech but for the price, I can’t find anything to fault it.

Title: Passable performance
Review: The LG G4 was a satisfying upgrade from the LG G3 model I had been previously using. It was a nice shape and weight to hold, with a decently bright and detailed 1440p screen that still suffered from subpar cooling. The battery life was never a huge issue, but replaceability was a nice bonus, and the sound quality out of the headphone jack was decent.Software-wise it was a bit of a letdown with occasional freezing, inconsistent responsiveness / lag and update irregularity but on balance they weren’t too much of a fuss. I didn’t experience any bootloops on the G4 or the G3 so your mileage may vary.Didn’t necessarily shop around for the best deal but at the £290 price point paid, it wasn’t a bad experience. I keep the phone around nearly three years later as a portable radio device and remote controller.

Review: This is an awesome phone. It works great and arrived very fast. I really enjoy the phone. A few things to keep in mind: 1. Before putting in the sim card, go into settings and look where to find the system language. When I inserted my sim card the phone changed the language to Greek, and the Google search result language added Greek as an option. No big deal it takes less than a minute to change back to your preferred language. 2. I had to go into the settings to turn on LTE and 3. The charging plug is incompatible with North America – I picked one up for less than $10. I’m on the Bell/Virgin Network and I have had no issues with the phone.

Vale assolutamente i soldi spesi.
