Title: Quallity laptop for a cheap price
Review: The X280 is a business class laptop, it will never be great at gaming, except for maybe old games or basic games, but if you don’t need a laptop for that then it is a perfect choice at this price point.My only issue is that the battery life isn’t too great and I’m only getting a few hours out of it, but then I will be using it plugged in most of the time anyway, so its not too big a deal for me. Mine also came with minor light scratches on the bottom but its not visible during use, and the rest of the laptop was spot on so I’m not complaining about that.It was installed with Windows 10 Pro (it was activated too) just as advertised, but after checking it for Windows 11 compatibility I discovered the only thing it needed was for “secure boot” to be enabled in the BIOS, after doing that though the laptop would no longer boot after that switching it from legacy to UEFI. However after creating a Windows 11 installation USB stick on my desktop PC and booting with that it installed Win11 with no problems or fuss, and once it was installed I had a laptop running Windows 11 Pro (activated) which runs perfectly, is pretty fast, and takes seconds to boot.I do love using the fingerprint reader to login using “Windows Hello” which hasn’t failed to read once so far. The built in webcam doesn’t work for facial recognition with “Hello” though, which according to a review I read it is because of the privacy shutter, and it does work normally other than for that one thing. Also it is the touchscreen model as an added bonus.

Title: Outstanding machine
Review: Outstanding little machine with great spec. Purchased from Microdream.My only concern was the power cable that came with the aftermarket power supply. The plug had a semi-plastic earth pin and was not compliant with BS1363 and potentially a safety hazard. Please check your 3rd party accessories.

Title: Great value
Review: Windows 10 Pro was installed and configured with free open office and other software already installed. The laptop is very clean and tidy with only a small ding but it’s second hand.Battery condition is good.All keys, ports and other doodads work well. The in built tracking system is permanently disabled. No lockouts or passwords left on. I cleared the TPM but suspect this had already been done.The internals are clean and there is no evidence of fluid ingress or other issues waiting to bite me. The SSD appears to be the original Samsung model and is an excellent drive.This has represented amazing value for a Thinkpad and I’d strongly recommend.Myself, I configured Windows, pulled the SSD and installed a fresh one to use Linux on. So far so good but I’m secure in the knowledge that I can put the old SSD back in at any time should Linux cause me issues. The only issue I’ve had is trying to get the fingerprint reader working in Ubuntu. I programmed my prints using Windows and use the fingerprint reader as the BIOS password, but can’t get it working in Ubuntu (yet). Apparently it can be done but it’s worth knowing it’s a pain if you’re looking for a cheap Linux laptop.

Review: Great laptop at an excellent price. It comes preinstalled with Windows 10, but it can be upgraded to Windows 11.Upgrading to Windows 11 is not trivial, but it’s easy when you know how.Here’s the best way to upgrade to Windows 11. Other methods (e.g. using a boot disk) take longer, and you will loose data.The only barrier to upgrade is that “Secure Boot” is disabled in BIOS. But if you enable “Secure Boot” in bios, Windows can no longer boot, because the machine is using MBR rather than GPT for its partition table.To fix this problem without loosing data or your Windows licence, you can use a Windows tool called MBR2GPT:1. Open cmd as administrator2. Run command: `MBR2GPT /convert /allowFullOS`3. Restart PC. Hit enter to skip normal boot, then F1 to enter setup.4. In setup, go to Security -> Secure Boot and change Secure Boot to Enabled.5. Hit F10 to save settings and exit.6. Download and use Windows 11 Installation Assistant to install Windows 11If it says your laptop is not compatible with Windows 11: log in with a Microsoft Account rather than a Local Account and then try again
