Customers say
Customers like the compactness and performance of the hard drive. They say it’s small and fits for purpose. They also like the capacity, ease of installation, and appearance. However, some customers have reported issues with the flashing blue light on the front. Opinions are mixed on quality and noise.

Title: Works great
Review: It is really good itself. Quiet. Does not get warm. Does not vibrate etc. It comes in with all possible plugs I could think of as well which can be easily changed which is AMAZING. The software is simple to understand and so far, worked well.It has 1 semi-con and one real con.Semi-con – It is really heavy for how small it is. Not that you wont be able to lift it but surprisingly heavy.REAL con is the BLUE LIGHT on the front. It is extremely strong and cannot be turned off. You either have to cover it, paint it over or disassemble the device and somehow remove the led. Not only its constantly ON but it also rapidly flashes every now and then and when PC/Laptop is off, it will be off BUT it will still do that occasional flashing for no reason. So far it worked without any problems and the storage is big so that is fine. It mostly just comes to that damn light. It has its own software but you cannot disable the light which is sort of silly. Would be little better if it was not for the BRIGHT BLUE colour of it…

Title: Fast and works well with M1 Apple Mac Mini
Review: I’ve been looking for a SSD based storage box to replace my SAN for some time but the cost was just too high so I bought this instead as a stop gap. 10TB is reasonable amount of storage but there are two things which have surprised me.Firstly it works really well with Apple Mac Mini (and therefore probably all Macs) – I don’t get those annoying errors saying the device wasn’t ejected properly – regardless of if I reboot the Mac or use the sleep function, the drive is available and connected when the Mac comes to life, no errors or delays.Secondly the speed ! It’s much faster than any other external hard drive I’ve had. My Mac Mini has a Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 port being an M1 Mac Mini and although this drive doesn’t support USB4 or Thunderbolt connections, it does enable it to run at full 10Gbit/s of USB 3.2 gen 2, which is the same headline speed at 10Gbit Ethernet, which is not really directly comparable, but does mean the the interface is never going to be the limiting factor, the speed limiter will be the disk and Lacie have fitted a fast disk which is giving me well over 220 MBytes/s read and write mixed file sizes. This is impressive for a spinning disk.Given the speed, the price and the build quality which is great (and I can’t hear a fan) this is very good value for money.

Title: Good
Review: I bought this to use as a Time Machine/Acronis backup for an Apple M1 iMac. Generally it works well and is fast. I have had problems with a previous LaCie d2 professional that was disconnecting but I have had no problems with this one. Perhaps a firmware update has solved this? Having said that I have found this drive constantly cycles between power up and standby when seemingly not being accessed which is annoying seeing as I need almost silence in order to work. I therefore have resolved this by turning it off and backing up manually as and when needed. I don’t generate many files so regular backups not really needed as I also use iCloud. Additionally I dislike the supplied cable. It is rather stiff, so rather than sitting on the desk and flowing to the drive it bends and twists up and down all over the place and looks messy. Shame because the drive is nice and well thought out.

Title: Smaller and faster
Review: I will never be without a Lacie drive again. I sold my orginal pair as I upgraded my machine and it no longer had thunderbolt connectors. So I thought, lets go for something a bit cheaper like a Western Digital MyBook. The god of irony landed and now less than 12 months after buying my WD drive I’m having to take everything off it as it is dog slow with an Apple Macbook Pro. Even transferring off it is slow, it’s like it doesnt want to be sent away. The Lacie on the other hand is gobbling up data as super speeds via a USB C connection which works incredibly well with my Mac and from the other connector it looks like it will also work well on my Windows 10 laptop.I will never be so foolish as to move to another brand again.

Title: Serviceable Doorstop or Jewellery Box
Review: As a doorstop for a fairly light door this product from LaCie – now owned by Seagate – is quite serviceable. Remove the electronics and it would make a handy box for small items – cufflinks and the like. For these purpose it would need neither power nor USB-c cables. Attach these and the problems begin. I foolishly chose to use this for data storage. This worked quite well at first but then I stopped downloading data. After a while I had a disk not properly ejected alert. I had not ejected the disk properly or improperly. It kept doing this. I changed cables, turned off and turned on everything I could think of and it kept improperly ejecting itself. Clearly that made me worry that it was not safe with my data. I sent a note asking for help via the LaCie – now owned by Seagate – web site. No answer. I sent another note. No answer. This has been going on for some time and I have now lost the will to keep trying and make my LaCie – now owned by Seagate – work. So, in summary: if you need a doorstop or box for small items this is for you. But do not attempt to use for data storage.PS Also it’s noisy and vibrates quite a bitPPS Why does Amazon insist on at least a one star rating?

Review: I like everything about this device. Large storage 18TB. Easy to set up & use. The only thing I really don’t like is the large blue operating light, about ½” in diameter and it flashes when it’s working to access files or uploading files. I covered it with tin foil and all is good.

Review: I bought two of them one working drive and the other a backup. Both drives failed in less than week of use.I sent both to Seagate. Their service is awful. After a month they only recover 1/3 of the data on the drive from the first one. The second drive is still somewhere since two months. I think they lost it. The service of Seagate is horrible, only by chat. Even if the agents are nice, they can’t do much. And I still waiting to see what happened to my drive. They really don’t care about their client. Get anything else but not Lacie or Seagate

Review: The product itself is a very good, reliable product. this is my second one. The product is mis advertised on Amazon. It says it is thunderbolt 4 ports, but it is really thunderbolt 3. LaCie was bought out by Seagate a while back and they have kept the LaCie product name. the problem is that Seagate support looks after the support of the LaCie drives and they do not have the product knowledge to do so. Their support is the worst in the industry. Made promises to follow up and never do. there is an update available for the drive I purchased and they are unable to give it to me. Their website does not serve up the update. If you purchase a drive do not expect any support from Seagate
