Review: I just plugged it into my laptop and it was ready right away, it has its own drive letter, so itâ€™s easy to find and use.I put all my cds onto iTunes with it, with no loading problems at all.

Review: Yep, it’s official, I’m getting on a bit and I much preferred it when laptops came with a DVD drive as standard, since they don’t this little device is a fab external DVD player that pretty much worked out of the box for me. In this instance, I didn’t order it in order to burn DVDs etc, I actually ordered it as I have a multitude of Region 1 DVDs (USA/Canada) which I cannot watch on a UK DVD player. So I decided I would use this drive as a dedicated region 1 player (I can chop and change as I have another) and then just mirror the laptop screen onto my telly so I can watch classic US shows such as “The life And Times Of Grizzly Adams” boxset which has never been available over here (the travesty)!The DVD player also works to write and re-write DVD and can burn your own disks if you want to do that. (definitely worth backing up your photo library onto a something you can hold in your hand, as well as onto the cloud if that’s your bag).Great device, I know DVD drives are out of fashion but they offer a great solution for many tasks and for the current list price of Â£29.69 it seems like a really helpful bit of kit.Five stars.

Title: A very handy external DVD drive…
Review: The idea of combining an external DVD drive and a multi-hub into a single unit is genius, and I’m pleased to report that the Alxum drive does a pretty decent job at providing that convenience in one small package. The 8 in 1 device hosts an 8x speed DVD burner, 1x USB 3.0, 3x USB 2.0, full size SD card reader, Micro SD card reader and a single USB C port. There is also a small slide switch on the side of the drive but the included documentation does not describe what that does. Additionally there is no Hard Drive inside the device, despite the label on the underside suggesting there may well be.In fact the included documentation is quite interesting. It quotes the operating systems that are supported by the drive, with the latest windows version mentioned being Windows 8. This would suggest these drives have been around for 10 years having probably been designed in 2014/2015. Take that as you will, but at the very least the documentation hasn’t been updated in the last decade so perhaps the same is true with the technology inside the device.From a convenience perspective however its a winner, and it performs perfectly well for a device that is likely only to get used every once in a while. The price at the time of writing this review is Â£34.99 with a 20% discount that can be applied at checkout. So at just smidge under Â£28 it’s a pretty decent option to pop in your laptop bag for those times when you need an optical drive handy.

Title: Really handy if your PC/laptop doesn’t have a DVD drive
Review: Many laptops are so small these days that they just can’t fit in what was standard 10 years ago. This is where such devices come in really handy if you need such functionality. I had a friend who wanted to back-up his wedding video and this device made it possible by ripping the first disc and then writing back to a DVD+R. t plugs in via USB-C and is surprisingly quiet when in use. It remains cool and worked seamlessly. If you need it, I’d recommend this.
