Title: Works great! But don’t expect extreme speeds
Review: Obviously limited by SATA speeds but works straight out the box. Can’t complain, doesn’t get too hot either, unsure if the other reviewers have a different batch.Perhaps a little pricey, but has lasted well in my system the last few months with 24/7 usage.

Title: Excellent and well made product
Review: A well designed product that makes it very easy and simple to to fit a 2.5 inch HDD/SSD into a 3.5 inch bay.

Title: Just dowatch the side mounting as not ideal for all PCs
Review: Ideal for putting a 2.5″ SSD into a standard 3.5″ PC slot. No screws required to hold it in place – slide it into the opening and the act of closing the door then pushes it in (someone has written detailed instructions on this already). Just do watch the side mounting as not ideal for all PCs. Does work great when fitting into a PC that has a backplace with the power and data cables on. Be aware no instructions so again someone has written an excellent review describing how to insert and fit.

Title: Terrific Idea, Great Design, But The Build Could Be Better
Review: I now have 3 Startech 2.5″ to 3.5″ converters, and in terms of flexibility and ease of use, I can’t fault them. They have an elegantly-designed loading mechanism for 2.5″ drives that enables them to take a range of different 2.5″ models (a piece of spring steel holding the drive in place to fit the SATA connectors) and a simple but very effective hinged front door with a catch that neatly locks the smaller drive in place. In terms of performance they are, in essense, completely invisible – which is pretty much flawless when you think about it. You will not notice that you are using this product once you’ve got it set up and connected. The one “Achille’s Heel” is actually a manufacturing challenge and not a design. To make the case compatible with traditional 3.5″ hard drives, there are 4 threads for mounting screws on the underside of the case. First, in the 3 models of this converter which I now own, these screw holes are ever-so-slightly mis-aligned. As a result you may find it a bit fiddly to secure this holder to it’s desired position (depending on how you intend to deploy it, and on the fixing systems of your chassis). Secondly, these holes appear tobe moulded into a very cheap, soft plastic, and in the 3 cases I’ve tried, are not properly aligned.I have a very specific use for mine. My PC has a set of “removable” drive caddies for 3.5″ discs, which fit in front 5.25″ drive bays and allow me to swap different 3.5″ discs into my machine. I can boot my PC to run Linux and Windows by swapping drives, which for my requirements is very handy… The tolerances on the caddy system (fitting the caddy into it’s docking bay) are close without being tight, but the combination of poor alignment and orientation of the thread holes meant that the supplied flat headed screw simply refused to screw down flush, and thus fouled the caddy docking solution. It took quite a bit of fiddling – and eventually the judicious bending of screw heads – to get a properly-fitting solution.Sum-up: if you’re going to use this as a fit-and-forget solution to mount a 2.5″ drive inside your PC, then you can’t go wrong. If you want to be more creative, then do be prepared to spend a little time getting everything to fit perfectly. The design is neat and elegant, but I would have gladly spent another £5 for something that fit as intended.

Title: Appearance flaws, then lots of fitting issues and finally it stops PC booting – a piece of junk
Review: On paper and based on other reviews this looked a really good product but my experience has proved otherwise and led me from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 star.First star gone – nicely made unit but spoilt by the dumb red metallic paint used for the release knob on the front that is unlikely to match anything else on your PC. Additionally the aluminium top layer of the unit is carried on to the front fascia which otherwise is all black (apart from the dumb red release catch). The unit was also a little undersized leaving a gap in the open aperture of both the different 5.25 inch bay adapters I tried with the unit.Second star gone – the holes on this enclosure do not line up with either of the Startech 5.25 drive bay adapter that I bought. You can only match two holes at best and the screws supplied with the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter are useless in the Startech 3.5 to 5.25 adapter. You can line up four holes but only if the aluminium enclosure is recessed into the PC as opposed to being flush with the fasica. The dumbos at startech have designed this to have the same fixing holes as a normal 3.5 hard drive – which would be recessed. This is meant to be accessed from the front of the PC which for most people will mean it goes in a 5.25 bay not a 3.5 bay. Startech have not provided any solution for this.Third star gone – I bought the Akasa 3.5 to 5.25 adapter – the Stargate 2.5 to 3.5 enclosure fitted far more snugly in this than Startech’s own product but still only 2 out of 4 fitting screws would match up.Fourth Star gone – I managed to install Windows 10 on a Sandisk SDD drive installed in this unit but on the first restart the PC would not boot/went into recovery mode. Magically taking the same SDD drive and linking it direct to motherboard the PC would boot.So I have gone from quite liking something to hating it – appearance flaws, then lots of fitting issues and finally it stopped the PC booting – AVOIDThird star gone

Title: JBOD doesn’t work
Review: JBOD requires your mother board to support Sata PM which it doesn’t say anywhere in the item details. I only found this out after searching the startech site wondering why it wasn’t working. The both my 1tb m.2 Sata drives work find when set into raid mode, in the system it shows up as a single 2tb drive. Not ideal as data recovery will be a ball bag if it goes wrong.

Title: does as it should
Review: nice little converter, but needs the needs the bigger one that that fits into the 5.5″ bay that hold the 3.5″hdd then it kills 2 birds with 1 stone

Title: I love this for the simplicity
Review: This made fitting a 2.5 SSD into a 3.5 sized bay (in an All-In-One PC) so easy. Insert the drive into the adapter – close the cover, and this pushes in the smaller drive and secures it in place. Yes, you could use a cheaper kit, but considering this needs you to do nothing other than open the adapter then close it, I think it is worth the premium.
