Review: The real draw for me is the ability of the iron to operate from a 5-volt USB power bank away from the bench. It does come with a 65-watt multi-voltage type ‘C’ AC to DC power supply, but being able to run it from a Lithium USB power bank is priceless. An important note here is, do not plug this into just any USB port, be sure the supply is capable of supplying enough voltage/current to properly operate the iron. A real plus is, that it takes a C245 tip, a common tip style, and are readily available. I’ve been a bench technician since the late 70s, I’ve used all sorts of bench and portable irons, many from major brands you would recognize in an instant. This iron is no joke, it works, and at a great price~!That said, this is an amazing little iron and it worked flawlessly for me, he heats up in seconds and has three adjustable heat settings, from about 300C to 450C, or 390F to 840F in three steps. If laid down for a minute it will standby automatically.It can be adjusted to function in ‘Manual’ mode or can be set so the iron senses the heat ‘sink’ of the tip and automatically adjusts for more heat as needed. In reality, this iron has more features then can talk about right here. Things like auto standby, undervoltage protection, standby temperature, auto heat, and temp correction, it can even rotate the screen and adjust the screen brightness. There’s more, but just know, this little guy works and works like a larger big brother on my bench.One minor ‘issue’ I had and I hesitate to call it a problem is, the tip needs to be firmly set in the iron. It mentions this in several places in the manual and on the website. Just be sure it is firmly seated, but more importantly, when pushing the tip into the iron, do NOT let it bind or bend, keep pressure straight forward toward the iron body, otherwise you might bend the iron tip. Another is the iron is ROUND and easily rolls around the bench, the supplied holder/stand solves that to a large degree.I played with the iron a lot more off camera, I was constantly impressed with not only the action, but also the construction, it appears to be extruded aluminum and assembled very well. Nowadays I’m retired, but I still maintain a ‘Go Kit’ for occasional contract work, I think I might find a space for this. I’m very happy and impressed with it.

Review: This is a very lightweight soldering iron and a nice addition to my soldering tools. When they mentioned portable I thought perhaps that it would run on a battery. One can wish, no? It does come with a 65W power prick and a heavy USB C to USB A cable along with a USB C to USB C cable which is a little lighter weight. Also and adapter for a 9v (pin style?) power supply. They give you a bit of solder and a small tray and sponge to clean the tip with too.Attaching the tip was actually pretty difficult. It is a pressure fit, and a little animation on the screen will indicate you have not attached it properly. I was putting a lot of pressure on it and that little animation was still flashing away. It took about 10 minutes to finally get it seated. You can of course get carried away by brute force attempting to get something attached and break it so it was sort of a dance to get enoug force without breaking it. However, once attached it did work well. The various programmable settings and lcd readout were a great bonus. Good tool but the design with the fit of the tips is a bit marginal.

Review: This worked well with the included USB-C power adapter.The adapter that came with it was a 65 watt one that outputs 20 Volts at 3.25 amps.This is about the optimum wattage for this iron. It can use up to a 100 watt adapter, but with the C245 type tips it will not heat up any faster.The tip was not fully inserted, but it is easy to insert as you just push it in until it stops.This style of tip does not screw in or have any fancy collar that holds it in, it just pushes in, and pulls out when you need to change it.The tip heated up very fast, and was up to temp and stable within a few seconds.You can watch the power consumed buy the tip on the display.After the tip is up to temp the power drops off and you can see it increase a little to maintain the temp if you blow on the tip.The display and menu are easy to use, I was able to change my quick presets and change it from C to F with no problems.The C245 tips are tiny, but have some serious power behind them to do bigger jobs.Using this is more like using a pen than one of the older style irons.You are holding it much closer to the work than the older style, and have better control that way.I didn’t think I was going to be impressed with this, but then I tried it out and am very impressed.I have already ordered several other styles of tip as the C245-I tip it comes with is very fine and I am used to using something a bit bigger that the point of a needle.The C245-I tip will not go far as it will work very well for the tiny surface mount components seen these days.

Review: I didn’t have much for expectations for a portable soldering pen, but it seems to work well enough. It’s a decent set of everything to get started. It’s got a little bit of solder to get you started, and also includes a cable and brick.Personally I think the inclusion of only 1 very fine tip was an iffy choice, as I believe a more middle of the road tip would be useful. It is easy enough to buy additional tips with the provided info, but I’d prefer it be more functional out of the gate.Overall a handy little device that works better than expected.
