Title: Pricey but well manufactured & simple to use – to extract toast.
Review: Ridiculously expensive when compared with £12.00 for the Dualit 510 Lite Double Pack Sandwich Cages but unfortunately they don’t fit the 499 model. bought two of the 499 cages on the same day; one from Selectric for £15.02 and one that was fulfilled by Amazon for £15.45. I paid the extra for the latter as it contributed to the £20 needed for free delivery of other items. The order from Selectric was delivered the next day, new, boxed with menu booklet enclosed. The Amazon fulfilled order was similarly new & boxed but I had to wait a couple of extra days for delivery (no excuse for the delay, as it wasn’t combined in the same box as my other items). Re. the item itself – I have used it as a pure indulgence for easily extracting bread from the toaster without burning fingers or needing to use a knife (I don’t eat toasted sandwiches so can’t advise on its efficiency in that respect). I know you could probably buy a new toaster for the cost of the cage but it is very well manufactured, does the job I ask of it and will probably last the life of the Dualit toaster itself. It’s excellent also for compressing and toasting thicker items such as bagels.

Title: Works well but should be a samewhat wider
Review: This sandwich support works very well in the Dualit toaster. After buying the Dualit toaster i started to eat in all my breakfasts a toasted sandwich with cheese and tomato and oregano! Very well toasted!The only limitation is that the toaster slot (of 28 mm) sould be wider, because as it is, the bread must be cuted very thin to make the sandwich. For a normal toast, the wide is enougt.

Review: They are not cheap, but they are good quality and they are essential for small prices of bread, hot cross buns, crumpets, burger rolls etc as they never get stuck in the toaster.We’ve got for now for each slot and people who stay have gone out and bought them too!Great product!

Title: Design classic!
Review: We bought one of these when we bought our toaster and never quite got round to buying a second one. This new one is an exact match and works perfectly which is not that surprising until I tell you we bought the toaster in 2004! It is very rare for any appliance to last this long, let alone being able to buy accessories for it after all this time. Bravo Dualit!

Title: OK cages, but check the size for compatibility.
Review: A bit of a long story but I feel it needs “putting out there” We had to buy two of these new cages when our Dualit 4 slice Architect toaster went kaput. Having paid upwards of £100 for a toaster I expected it to be repairable.. Apparently not the case, the £100+ toaster had to be scrapped The architect cages aren’t compatible with the new Dualit £150+ newer 4 slice model that we bought as a replacement. So we had to buy new cages also. The new cages are fine and seemingly well made but at around £15 each I thought too expensive for what they are but we were left with no choice really as t he family particularly like toasted sandwiches. The new cages are smaller than the originals so, bread slice size dependant, the sandwiches don’t always fit the new toaster. In short the cages are fine but make sure you pick the correct size for your toaster. I can’t help feeling a little hard done by considering the replacements costs involved for which I consider to be a less than ideal solution from the original.

Review: UPDATE: I am updating this review only as a result of reading others’ reviews. If one reads the instructions or watches Dualit’s videos, when making sandwiches, one should follow the British way of making sandwiches since this is a British product—cut off the crusts for a better sandwich, although not strictly necessary. Next, these cages are NOT meant to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The operative word in this name of the sandwich is ‘Grilled.’ One is not grilling the sandwich. One is toasting a sandwich; ergo, the result is a toasted cheese sandwich. If one expects to end up with a grilled cheese sandwich—well, one will be out of luck. So, when reviewing the product or even purchasing these cages, don’t give it a 1-star rating simply because it does not grill your sandwich or because it burns your crusts. The result will be a wrongful and not helpful review of the product.Although these Sandwich Cages are made by Dualit and for the Dualit Classic NewGen and Dualit other model toasters, they will work in other branded toasters as well. I love a toasted sandwich and I tried it out to see how good a toasted sandwich could be.So, I made the easiest sandwich which is one of my favorites—a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Of course, this is a toasted cheese sandwich. Following the directions, I buttered the outside of two pieces of white bread, and placed two slices of American cheese in the middle with three slices of sweet pickles, folded the two pieces of bread to make into a sandwich and closed the sandwich cage. As a warning, I prepared the bottom buttered slice of bread sitting on the out-folded sandwich cage.Then I took my second sandwich cage and did the same thing. I put both cages into my new Dualit NewGen toaster (the toaster the sandwich cages were actually made for), popped them into the slots 1 and 2, lowered them and locked them in place, and set the timer to just a little past the · (dot) and waited for them to toast.When you butter your bread, make sure you brush the bread with the butter or at least insure that you use softened butter that spreads thinly on the bread. If you spread the butter too thickly, it will leak into the toaster which is a definite no-no.When the toasting was finished, I had two beautifully toasted cheese and pickle sandwiches. The cheese was not melted like a grilled cheese sandwich, but rather was slightly melted—melted enough to not fall out of the bread—enough to be warm to the touch. The pickles were cold out of the refrigerator and they were also warm to the touch.These sandwich cages are a great way to make this new twist on a traditional classic—the ubiquitous sandwich, and just different enough to be crunchy to the taste and wonderful to eat.
