Title: Good Quality at Low Cost
Review: I was looking for a wire stripper for stripping very small cables on electronic and instrumentation quality cables, I possess several makes of cable strippers, but on very small stranded cables they tend to snap strands of the cable and on solid core cable they tend to slightly nick the cable at the point of stripping, this is due to the technique employed by the stripper in removing the insulation. Most cable strippers grip the complete cable to be stripped in the entry jaws then when the stripper is operated the blade clamps the insulation to be removed and in doing so grips the conductor cables at the same time. Unfortunately when the insulation is pulled from the cable it usually removes a strand or two and on solid core it tends to nick the cable. This Rolson cable stripper grips the complete cable in the entry jaws, but differs in that there are a series of holes ranging from 0.5 to 3.2mm that will cater for the usual cable sizes, you select the correct size for the cable you are stripping and when the stripper is operated the tool only removes the required insulation without removing any of the cores of the stranded cable or damaging any solid core cable. The tool works 100% every time without damaging the cable cores at all, however the stripper is described as an automatic cable stripper and up to now I have not managed to work out how to set the stripping length, but this does not matter to me as what is important is the clean undamaged stripped cable end for correct termination without any loss of cores or damage to single cores, a first rate tool and highly recommended.

Title: These are fantastic and very well made
Review: Oh my goodness!! where were these when I was a lad???These are fantastic and very well made.It was a toss up between Rolson or Maplin but I decided on these as they were a little cheaper but looked more canary like.I have been practising with these all afternoon and are perfect. I think these will last me now till the end of my life and maybe my kids too.Very well made and well worth the money.I recommend these to anyone and I have seen the Maplin ones and these are just as good if not better. Maplin are always too expensive anyway.

Title: Do the job I bought them for!
Review: I have had tools from Rolson in the past, and knowing they are good value for money, I decided to get these. It’s a good pair of strips, and makes my life so much easier than when I used to go round with a pair of clapped out electricians pliers! The grips are good on them, The blades are very sharp, and the mechanism grabs a good hold of the wire before stripping it.My only moan would be that occasionally they get stuck, as the cutting surface is flush against the frame. This isn’t really a problem for me as I have loads of WD40 to hand, but bear this in mind as it might just be the minor source of frustration I sometimes have working up a 10ft ladder!Generally a good tool, and I can’t complain as their very easy to use and good value.

Title: Speedy
Review: Great addition to the DIY toolbox. Simple to use – insert cut end of wire in to the appropriate sized stripping hole, squeeze handles and it cuts and strips the insulation, leaving a clean set of inner strands or solid wire. It won’t strip really fine wires (e.g. multi-core telephone wire is too small), but for larger gague electrical wire it saves time and frustration. It also has an adjustable length gague so that you can strip a set of wires to the same length, but if fitted it makes it harder to see when you have the wire properly inserted in to the correct stripping hole. You can just leave it off if a problem.

Title: Cheap and a bit nasty sometimes
Review: These are just about satisfactory. They will strip wires with cores of a few different thicknesses and so are reasonably adequate for many tasks. They aren’t adjustable beyond the set widths though, so if the wire doesn’t fit you’re out of luck.About 25% of the time I’ve found wires they should strip where they don’t strip first time which can make a mess of the job. The automatic gripping feature works when it works but makes a hash of things when it doesn’t.Perhaps I’m expecting too much from something so cheap. However they can be used one handed, when they work, so that’s a plus.I’m not totally persuaded by the build quality of these either. Cheap metal is better than cheap plastic, sure, but these are a bit loose and wobbly. Also I have my doubts some of the smaller metal parts will last that long. Time will tell.To Sum Up: Probably fine if you’re on a budget and tidy enough when they work (which they don’t always). For the occasional job they may be good enough but you may want to look elsewhere if you have a lot of jobs to do.

Title: Works well once lubed with silicone
Review: It does the job, and does it alright. It may be a bit inconsistent, so once you’re in a “flow”, it might throw you off a bit.I found that the teeth/cutter return mechanism was the weakest point as it would stick every now and then, but after lubing it up with some wd40 with silicone (ptfa?), it improved plenty. All in all, it’s simplified and sped up my wire stripping tasks a lot.

Title: NO SENSE OF WHAT QUALITY IS…PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!!!
Review: I bought this tool in February 2012, but I used it less than sixty(60) times throughout those five and a bit years, last week when stripping a 1.5mm2 wire one of the springs fell off!!!! That’s it, out of the blue!!!! No strain whatsoever on the tool….it just broke. Stick with German tools: Weidmuller, Phoenix Contact or Knipex…out of the three Weidmuller and Phoenix Contact have better reviews. I had to buy a Weidmuller Stripax, which is lighter and can cut wires also.By the way, nowadays there are tools that do everything: cut, strip and crimp…all in one tool. Also some of them come with a ferrule magazine that automatically position the ferrule to be crimped. Search for Crimpfox 4 in 1 from Phoenix Contact or STRIPAX PLUS 2.5 from Weidmuller. Both are fantastic tools for panel building or connecting wires to a marshalling cabinet. The downside is they only work with up to 2.5mm2 wires/ferrules.The bottom line is: do not spend your money and time with this tool, it is obsolete and the worst thing is it has no quality. If you are a professional electrician this is not the tool for you, even if you are into DIY, this is not the right tool.
