Review: I really like gaming keyboards and this one intrigued me due to it being wireless. It does seem to have very fast responsiveness and I really like the feel of the keys. The one thing that will take some getting used to is that there are no letters / numbers on the top of the keys — they are on the side. Not a major deal for me, but it will take some getting used to.

Review: This is a review for the EPOMAKER x AULA F99 Pro keyboard. It is a 96% layout and comes with 99 keys as opposed to a full-sized keyboard which has 104 keys. I had wanted to order a keyboard with a keypad, but one that was not quite as compact as some others with a layout that separated the arrow keys enough so it made them easier to quickly find. I focused on the AULA F99 and its layout ever since I saw the AULA F99 get good reviews, and after I saw it had an extra large 8000 mAh battery which is about twice the size of other wireless keyboards. This is the new version with a slightly different layout and the addition of a circular metal knob in the upper right which serves as a dual function knob for either controlling the computer volume, or the brightness of the RGB lights. (You can also control the volume with Fn + F10/F11/F12 on the keyboard and the RGB lights with Fn + up arrow/down arrow.) It measures 15.95 inches x 5.35 inches x 1.18 inches. Although it doesn’t explicitly say the angle of the kickstands on the bottom, compared to another AULA F99 model it appears to be 7 degrees.The other main difference between the AULA F99 Pro and AULA F99 is the Pro version has South-Facing LEDs whereas the F99 has North-Facing LEDs. The version of the keyboard I ordered was Blue&White without side-printed see-through keys. They also have a Blue&Grey&White version and a Black&White&Green version which also do not have side-printed see-through keys, as well as a Black Gradient and Blue Gradient version which do have side-printed see-through keys. I initially kept the original keys on to see how they looked in the dark, but then replaced them with a side-printed keycap set I had previously used on another keyboard. The keycaps were fairly easy to replace, and I only accidentally pulled two switches out of their sockets which I was able to put back in without bending the pins while testing in an online keyboard tester. I have included before and after pictures.Along with the keyboard you also get a nice USB-A to USB-C cable, a keycap puller, the user manual, a 30 second quick operation card, and 4 extra switches. The keyboard is very heavy at 2 pounds 10 ounces, and with the grippy rubber feet on the bottom it’s extremely unlikely to slide away from you during furious typing sessions. The keys that are “missing” (INS, Prtsc,Pause and END) can be selected by using the Fn key along with DEL, Scroll, Calculator, and HOME, or you can use the software to change individual keys to the keys you want.Finding the software to go with the keyboard is no easy task, and they really need to include the web address in the listing somewhere. There are several different AULA and EPOMAKER websites and at first I could not find the software. Fortunately I was able to find the software only because of my ordering the AULA SC580 mouse before, and finding my instructions to others in my review of that mouse. To find the software (which is only for Windows) do a search for “aulastar driver” and click on the link that says “Latest Driver Downloads”. At that page click on the link to the International page which is just a Google Drive download page. The driver is about a third of the way down the page and is named “AULA F99Pro.zip” and it came up 100% clean at VirusTotal. Unfortunately, probably because the keyboard is too new, I was unable to find a pdf file of the user manual at any of their websites and so I made my own from the included manual.The software is very good but it is strangely missing a battery level indicator, although the approximate battery level can be easily seen (and kept on all the time if you choose) by selecting Fn +B on the keyboard. The sleep mode can be adjusted to anywhere from 1 minute to 20 minutes. The RGB lights have 8 levels of brightness as opposed to the 4 levels I have seen on other keyboards, although the brightest setting did not seem any brighter than other keyboards. With the software and my side-printed keycaps I was able to create a permanent INS key replacing the calculator key. The keyboard easily connected to my PC wired and with the 2.4 GHz dongle, as well as over Bluetooth. There is a slot for the 2.4 GHz dongle located conveniently next to the switch to choose the various connection modes.Some people may not like the omission of the right control key, but I like the fact that it allows for separating the left and right arrow keys from the bottom row and the keypad instead of all in a row, allowing them to be quickly found. This layout also lets you find the Fn key faster since it’s now the right end key which I also like.If there’s one small gripe I have it’s that they say you should charge it only with the included USB cable, and I am used to using a much shorter USB cable which is more convenient for me to use. However, with the longer battery life compared to the 5000 mAh and 4000 mAh keyboards I previously used I’m willing to overlook that small inconvenience.My previous favorite keyboard as far as feel was the YUNZII YZ87 although it did not have a numeric keypad. I can see why the AULA F99 got such good reviews, and the change to south-facing LEDs along with the convenient knob to adjust the volume or brightness of the LED’s makes the EPOMAKER x AULA F99 Pro keyboard even better. I would suggest you purchase one of the side-printed see-through gradient versions if you are going to use it in the dark, but the versions with top lettering looks great also. It’s now my favorite keyboard and it has to get 5 stars.

Review: This was a surprisingly good keyboard. If weight means quality, this one is right up there, because it’s hefty. It was also packaged quite nice inside the box. The keyboard sits well on my desk with no tendency to slide around thanks to the weight. Key presses are solid without a ton of clicking sounds despite being mechanical. The key caps are easily removed with the included tool, as are the switches themselves, making this a good base for customizing. The lighting on it is quite vibrant with smooth gradients. The volume knob is solid and turns smooth, with minor indents for a somewhat “clicky” feel when you turn it.I only tried the wired connection option, and that was flawless.Now for the down sides. The key lettering is not transparent, so you may not be able to read the keys in dark environments. Being high contrast black lettering on white and light colored caps on the one I ordered does help, and replacement caps with transparent letters should allow for backlighting them. Despite the weight, the frame is a little flexible. This shouldn’t be a problem unless you are extremely rough on it, so be aware. This is a smaller layout with only 99 keys, meaning not everything is as easily accessable and may require a combo key press instead of a dedicated key on a regular keyboard. The RGB is controlled only via hotkeys. Razer Synapse, MSI Mystic Light, and SignalRGB did not detect the keyboard for RGB control. At least the stock color pattern options are many and look nice.
