Review: I got this device to harvest photos and data from dead laptop and desktop drives, then wipe and reformat before recycling. If the SATA/ATA drive is still able to retrieve data and/or write it works great. The separate power plug is a very snug fit for some drives, but it worked fine. Attached are examples of a laptop and a desktop drive I was able to recover data from. Note that if the drive is severely damaged chances are not good for data recovery. But be patient. I thought one was a lost cause and after about 20 minutes it finally responded. I used the USB 3.0 without the supplied USBC adapter. It’s plug and play, no need to download any software. I made all of the connections (drive, power, USB) before turning on the reader’s power switch. All of the partitioned drives on the disk will appear in your file Explorer window when it is successful, but you may need to wait a long time for all of the sub-folders to be accessible.

Review: Watch the video for tips with some hard drives.I needed this to extract files from a few excavated hard drives from computers that were otherwise fried. Unfortunately I didn’t have any luck with 3 of them as they might have been fried in the first place – had them so long I can’t remember. In any event it did allow me to extract data from a 14 year old hard drive so I know it works. Fired it up and the old drive was immediately recognized on my Windows 10 laptop & my newish iMac.Comes with USB and an adapter to USB-C for faster extraction. Includes a 4 pin adapter as well (see video) as certain SATA drives look like they could insert directly into the reader OR via the 4 pin. I had more luck with the 4 pin. The red light indicates power and a flashing blue light indicates that the hard drive is being read. With larger SATA drives you can also hear the drive operating when it’s connected and functioning.Well made!Very happy with this!

Review: I am o glad I chose this one. I almost got one that only supports up to 6 TB and I have several 8 TB drives. Many of my drives are from 2000 to 22003. Some are still able to get the data and some are just dead. That clank of death sound. I use this to connect to my Mac as well as to my Windows on Dell. I’ve accessed IDE as well a SATA and they have the cable for the IDE power. The SATA actually works off the power connected to this device. The newer drives are very fast but the old drives are slow and really slow. I’ve been able to rescue many family pictures I thought were gone. I have a few old laptop drives to connect to still. Some are SATA and some are the smaller … IDE? Anyway, this works very well. In windows device manager, this shows up as Innostor. I guess that’s who actually manufactures it. It seems decent quality so I’ll have to come back and update this after a while. Have not been paid to review and nobody has asked me to review this item. I bought this and I am reviewing this on my own.
