This is a wonderful machine, not only does it make superbly brewed coffee it is also a journey into science and a visual spectacle. The design of this coffee maker dates back to the 1830s. The machine works using gravity and vacuum principles: first, you place ground coffee in the heavy glass brew chamber. Next, you fill the boiler chamber with hot water and place it on the apparatus. A tube connects the two chambers. When full of water the boiler sits low on the swing frame and holds the lid open on the alcohol wick burner. When the water boils it is forced into the brewing chamber, at this point the boiler rises and the lid of the burner closes extinguishing the flame. A vacuum is created in the boiler and the brewed coffee from the brewing chamber is now miraculously drawn back into the boiler from where it can be served from the little tap… The tube that connects the chamber has a very fine washable mesh filter that never needs replacing. The entire process is quite a visual spectacle and the coffee can easily be prepared at the table. This machine is a modern reproduction of a 19th-century design from Europe. It is very well made: the metalwork and glass chamber are top quality. The machine comes beautifully and securely gift-boxed. Vacuum coffee brewers produce a tasty and clean brew. The water reaches the coffee at the ideal temperature of 93c and is able to percolate for just the right amount of time. The vacuum created is very strong and literally sucks every bit of the extracted essence from the coffee grounds. Review: I love the whole concept of this coffee machine.Easy to use, lovely tasting coffee and great entertainment piece. (Looks good too)Am using methylated spirit in the alchol burner- no smell or soot release.So far I have only made coffee with this machine but plan to use tea leaves later today.Just a tiny bit over priced, so four star has been rated but five star issued to all other catagoris.

Review: This was a treat to myself! It is completely unnecessary but what the hell I wanted something to look nice in the kitchen.You will get one large cup of coffee or just over two normally coffee cups. Also if you leave the spirits in the jar it will evaporate over time… so fill up with what you will use.Friends have been impressed by it… makes a nice show of making coffee.I first spotted this coffee machine after watching one used by Hannibal in the namesake TV series.

The whole experiance from grinding the beans to hearing the satisfing dribble of coffee into my cup helps me to chill out at the end of a hard working day and is a none too stressfull way to start one either.
