Review: From a still active painter of 37yrs, these are the BEST mini rollers you can buy, here’s why & what makes them better than the rest & why i only use these,purdy is a big name in painting & rightly so i use all there gear but they don’t have mini rollers as good as these, & unlike other mini roller sleeves the pile on these covers the roller completely even on the edge which helps the paint roll into the corners of walls & ceilings so you don’t have to use a brush & you get a continuous roller finish as opposed to brush finish in corners then roller finish on main part of area painted, more professional finish ? Also time saving as no need to use steps & a brush as before, these are heavy rollers & hold huge amounts of paint so a tip if you don’t want a too heavy finish is add a tiny amount of water to emulsion & run off the roller in the tray so there’s not much paint as it goes a long way, if you tape top of skirtings to stop spray from normal roller when doing rest of the area, then use it to do there too so it just leaves cutting in with brush at top, just tap the edge of roller on the run off part of bucket or tray to coat the edge with paint,im giving all my tips away here 😉

Review: I was a bit suprised when I received these roller sleves they look a bit like a couple of long haired gunie pigs when you unwrap them, and I must admit I was a bit dubiouse about how they would work. My initial thought was that because the covering was so long they would flick paint all over the place. having steeled myself to use one I found they were pretty good, not the best I’ve ever used but not bad. One or two bits of hair came of initially but after that everything went ok. They load well with paint and give the sort of coverage you would expect from this size roller

Title: It did the job on pebble dash!
Review: There are three ways to paint very chunky pebble dash:1. Spraying – you need to be very careful of overspray, and you need to do a lot of masking off. The house I was doing had a lot of gables, and masking them all up would have taken way too long.2. Brushing – this is always what I used to do, with a good masonry brush you can get into all the nooks and crannies between the pebbles, but it takes a very long time.3. Rolling – you need a very long pile roller. I’ve tried this in the past with mixed results. The fibres tend to mat down into the pile somewhat, especially as you apply pressure to get the paint into the nooks and crannies.The advantage of the Captain Chunk roller is that not only does it have the long fibres, but it also has a partly foam core, so you can apply a lot of pressure to the roller to get it into crannies, and then the foam springs back. Basically, it works. It won’t get into really deep crevices, of course, but that’s when you go over these areas quickly with a brush after the first coat.The only problem I had with the roller was losing some of the fibres onto the masonry as I rolled. These had to be picked off the pebbledash. It was very sharp and lumpy pebbledash, so to be expected up to a point. I don’t know whether this is inevitable or whether Axus to get the fibres glued onto the core even more tightly.Would I use it again? Yes – the next pebble dash house I have to paint will be painted with one of these roller sleeves.
